An Islamic view on environmental responsibility

HARTFORD — Environmental stewardship will be the main topic at the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut‘s annual leadership banquet this year.

The event, titled, “Sacred Earth, Islamic Environmental Study” will honor three local leaders. Awardees are Daniel Esty, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, Rabbi Andrea Cohen-Kiener, former director of the Interreligious Eco-Justice Network and Sarah Juwaid, director for Green Muslims.

Ibrahim Abdul Matin will be the keynote speaker. He is the author ofGreen Deen. Matin and Cohen-Kiener will be available after the banquet for book signings.

The event will be Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. at the Hartford Marriott, 200 Columbus Blvd.
