NEW HAVEN — The Rev. Al Sharpton, a noted civil rights leader and president of the National Action Network, will join AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer Lee Saunders in keynoting a rally and march for New Haven public service workers on March 14 at 4:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church, located at the corner of College and Elm Streets in downtown New Haven.
Public services and the middle class are under attack in New Haven, according to http://www.council4.org. The site claims that Mayor John DeStefano’s has already laid off city workers, including paraprofessionals and police officers, and is threatening more layoffs and privatization of family- supporting jobs.
Sharpton and Saunders have been traveling around the country, speaking out against the assault on public services.
