LITCHFIELD — A winter retreat, “Praying the Hours with Thomas Merton” will be held at Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center from Jan. 7 to Jan. 9, 2011.
Kathleen Deignan, CND, who designed a Book of Hours composed exclusively of Thomas Merton’s sacred works, will facilitate the retreat. The book contains Merton’s poetry, “found” psalms, hymns, and canticles, woven into a breviary to sustain prayer life. Participants will learn the art of sanctifying time—a healing and transformative practice that draws the soul into deep silence and devotion.
Sr. Deignan is Professor of Religious Studies at Iona College. She founded and directs the Iona Spirituality Institute. She is also a psalmist and composer in residence with Schola Ministries which publishes her original sacred songs.
The retreat will begin with dinner at 6 p.m on Jan. 7 and end with lunch on Jan. 9.
There is a non-refundable deposit of $50. Scholarships are available. Gift certificates for all programs also are available.
