Waterbury Teen Killed at Holy Land

WATERBURY — Waterbury made headlines again this weekend after a 16-year-old girl was found strangled in Holy Land USA.

The body of Chloe Ottman was found Saturday, one day after she was reported missing. The suspect, Francisco Cruz, 19, led police to her body after being questioned. The AP reports that Ottman was sexually assaulted and strangled.

Cruz faces capital felony charges as well as murder and sexual assault. He is being held on a $5 million bond and is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Holy Land is an 18-acre attraction recognized by its 50-foot, lit cross overlooking I-84.

At Holy Land USA are replicas of Bethlehem and Jerusalem made from scrap wood, chicken wire, sheet-metal and other materials. The area, where several nuns still reside, is run by the Religious Teachers Filippini.

Waterbury made news earlier this month when Rev. Kevin Gray was charged with stealing $1 million from Sacred Heart Parish.
