FALLS VILLAGE — The 14th Annual Klezmer on the Hills will be featuring The Alexander Fiterstein Trio. The performance will be held on June 27 at 4 p.m. at Music Mountain, 225 Music Mountain Rd, Falls Village .
“Klezmer has become one of the primary languages of the musical avant-garde,” writes The New Yorker.
The Alexander Fiterstein Trio plays music rooted in spiritual traditions and enlivened by a riotous mixture of jazz and folk”, Says Rabbi Joseph I. Eisenbach, founder of the annual event.
Klezmer is the Jewish folk/dance music whose roots lie in old Eastern Europe. It was popular in the United States in the 1930’s-40’s, when immigrants merged these roots with the big band style. It then nearly died out due to the assimilationist Americanization of the mid-century. Since the late 70’s, it is back, as indicated by the popularity of Itzhak Perlman’s recent recording entitled “In the Fiddler’s House.”
For the 13th year, Klezmer on the Hills has been a hit in Northwest Connecticut.
The event promises to be an enjoyable afternoon for people of all ages, Eisenbach says.
This program is sponsored by Chabad Lubavitch of the Northwest Connecticut.
